Our Story

Turtle Mountain Animal Rescue (TMAR) was founded by Keith and Kimberly Benning and Lacey Strietzel in 2014. TMAR is a 501c3 non-profit organization run out of a garage that serves mostly the communities within Rolette County, ND. Their dream is to get out of the four kennel garage they are in and build a real shelter where they can rescue animals, offer free and low cost spay clinics, vaccination services and community outreach programs.

Due mostly to the efforts of Keith Benning, TMAR has grown rapidly from a three person rescue to having nearly a dozen steady volunteers working on the ground and behind the scenes rescuing animals each day. TMAR saves 70-100 dogs, puppies, cats and kittens each month.

TMAR is a grass roots garage rescue that is funded 100% by donations. Individuals and business across the nation have recognized the efforts of this unstoppable team and have pitched in everything from $10 dollars a month to angel donations that keep them going.

Our Mission

To rescue stray and unwanted animals while putting into place the necessary services to decrease the unwanted animal population. It is our mission to work with the communities so that together we can come up with long term permanent solutions that improve the quality of lives for the humans and the animals.
